We're thrilled to announce that Alterna Drive has officially entered into a multi-year partnership with Westside Independent School District (WISD), one of the largest districts in the greater Austin metropolitan area. Beginning this fall semester, over 500 students will benefit from Alterna Drive's premium transportation services.

Why Westside Chose Alterna Drive

WISD was facing a growing challenge familiar to many districts: aging bus fleets, driver shortages, and increasing demand for specialized transit routes, particularly for students with IEPs requiring therapies and appointments across the district. Traditional busing simply couldn't keep up.

After a rigorous RFP process, WISD selected Alterna Drive based on our safety record, real-time tracking capabilities, and ability to integrate directly with their existing student information system.

"We evaluated six vendors and Alterna Drive was the clear frontrunner. Their driver vetting process alone set them apart from every other provider we considered."

— Dr. Linda Morales, WISD Superintendent

What This Means for Families

Parents and guardians of WISD students will gain access to the full Alterna Drive guardian experience: real-time GPS tracking of their child's vehicle, push notifications for pick-up and drop-off, direct in-app communication with drivers, and our 24/7 concierge support line.

For students in specialized programs, this means consistent, reliable transportation to therapy sessions, enrichment programs, and after-school activities, all with dedicated drivers they'll come to know and trust.

The Rollout Plan

The partnership will be phased in over the first semester:

  • check_circlePhase 1 (August): Special education transit routes and IEP-mandated transportation
  • check_circlePhase 2 (September): After-school program transportation for Title I campuses
  • check_circlePhase 3 (October): Full district integration with overflow and supplemental routes
