AlternaDrive has officially entered into a multi-year transportation partnership with Westside Independent School District (WISD). Beginning this fall, more than 500 students will move from the daily uncertainty of overstretched busing to a vetted-driver model with real-time visibility for guardians and administrators.

Why Westside chose AlternaDrive

WISD was facing a familiar challenge: aging fleet capacity, driver shortages, and growing demand for specialized routes — especially for students with IEPs and out-of-zone placements. Standard busing couldn't flex fast enough.

After a competitive RFP, WISD selected AlternaDrive based on our four-stage driver clearance process, real-time tracking, and direct integration with their student information system. We didn't just sell a platform — we showed up as the operator that would actually run the routes.

"We evaluated six vendors. AlternaDrive's driver vetting alone set them apart from every other provider we considered — and the fact that they operate the routes themselves made the decision easy."

— Dr. Linda Morales, WISD Superintendent

What it means for families

WISD guardians get the full AlternaDrive experience: live GPS, push and SMS alerts for pickup and drop-off, in-app messaging, authorized-pickup verification, and a 24/7 dispatch line staffed by real people.

For students in specialized programs, that means consistent, reliable rides to therapies, enrichment, and after-school activities — with dedicated drivers they'll see again and again.

Phased rollout

The partnership rolls out across the first semester:

  • check_circlePhase 1 (August): Special education and IEP-mandated transportation.
  • check_circlePhase 2 (September): After-school program transportation for Title I campuses.
  • check_circlePhase 3 (October): Full district integration with overflow and supplemental routes.
